A growing number of pubs and restaurants have taken the decision to offer guest accommodation in the hope of increasing revenue and attracting new clientele. With the combination of the recession hitting in 2008, and a steady decline in everyday ‘social drinkers’, local pubs have been hit hard and have had to diversify their offering in order to survive.
The key to success for these pubs seems to be an all-round offering of 5 or more letting bedrooms, a good quality food menu , friendly yet professional customer service and above all good value for money. Customers that were surveyed said they would avoid offers that seemed cheap with very basic accommodation and were happy to spend a bit more on higher quality accommodation with characterful buildings and attractive village locations also being factors in the final decision.
