McDonalds UK have commissioned research that has shown 97% of businesses believe soft skills are key to business success , despite this most businesses admitted that the skills were not taken into account in appraisals or when recruiting or promoting internally.
Soft skills are broadly defined as the skills that enable us to work well with colleagues and interact successfully with clients , also known as interpersonal skills they include good manners , verbal communication , adaptability, empathy and the ability to collaborate and negotiate – to mention a few.
The hospitality industry has been hi-lighted as one of the worst affected sectors for lacking soft skills and Mc Donald’s have made key recommendations to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the Association of Colleges on how they feel the problem can be addressed from secondary education level onwards.
